Because of his impressive influence at Barcelona and his exciting style of play, many fans naturally draw comparisons between him and former Barça superstar Lionel Messi.
In his conversation with CBS News’ 60 Minutes, Yamal was questioned about being likened to Lionel Messi. Although he expressed admiration for the Argentine legend, the young Spanish star firmly stated that he has no intention of emulating Messi.
During his interview with Jon Wertheim, Yamal discussed Lionel Messi and expressed admiration for the former Barcelona icon who wore the number 10 shirt for so many years.
Despite his respect, Yamal emphasized that he wants to play in his own way rather than imitate Messi.
He explained: “There is mutual respect, and I think we both understand that I don’t want to become Messi, and Messi knows I don’t want to be him. I want to follow my own path, and that’s all. I have no desire to play like him or to wear the number 10 because he did, or anything along those lines.”
